Geysers and Waterfalls
Iceland has no shortage of hot springs and geysers.
But the most famous is Geysir (or The Great Geysir).
This is THE geyser that all geysers are named after!
Unfortunately it explodes to life only rarely these days.
Our tour guide Arnie said he’d never seen it blow - though he missed an eruption once while fetching a coffee in the adjacent cafe!
However it’s brother - just meters away - is called Strokkur and it’s a different story.
That geyser erupts to life every 5-10 minutes and puts on a fantastic show for the tourists.
Below are some fun slow motions - watch to the end to see me get drenched.
For another drenching we went to perhaps Iceland’s most famous waterfall (there are many contenders) called Gullfoss, meaning the Golden Falls.
Made me wish I’d brought a better camera than my iPhone, but this video still conveys some of the majesty.
Both these sites are within the so-called Golden Circle, a concentration of attractions which are reasonably close to Reykjavík.
