Antarctica Day 8

Deception Island and Half Moon Island

Now racing the clock (due to forecast storms in Drake Passage), the captain opted not to stop at Deception Island.

Instead he passed through Neptune's Bellows (a narrow entrance) and did a leisurely circuit of the famous caldera.

Ruins from its whaling past were visible on the shoreline.

We then sailed to Half Moon Island, where we did stop for a final adventure ashore.

The weather - foggy just an hour earlier - was splendid for a final walk among penguins and seals.

We then boarded the ship for the final time and headed north into the Drake Passage, sailing back to Argentina.
